Order of

The Most Honourable Order of Distinguished Rule of Ghaazee, the highest honour given by the Maldivian State, has been conferred on former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom tonight.

The Order of ‘Nishan Ghaazee’ was conferred on Gayoom by President Dr Mohamed Waheed at a ceremony held at the Republic Square.

Gayoom served as the president of the Maldives from 1978 to 2008.

The Order of ‘Nishan Ghaazee’ has previously been conferred on Ibrahim Nasir, the first president of the second Republic of the Maldives.

The ceremony also saw the presenting of the second highest honors conferred by the Maldivian State, The Most Honourable Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzudheen which was was conferred on Abbas Ibrahim, Abdul Rasheed Hussain and Aneesa Ahmed; The Order of Distinguished Army Service conferred on Major General (Rtd) Mohamed Zahir, and The Order of Distinguished Rule of Muleege conferred on Champa Hussain Afeef, Gasim Ibrahim and Champa Mohamed Moosa.
