Nine political parties have submitted audit reports: Elections Commission

Elections Commission has said that the nine political parties have submitted their annual audit reports this year. The deadline for the submission of the reports expired yesterday.

Secretary General of the Elections Commission Asim Abdul Sattar confirmed to Sun that nine political parties have submitted their annual audit reports this year, but did not identify the parties

“Nine political parties have submitted their audit reports, as the deadline for the parties to submit their audit reports expired yesterday. But I cannot reveal which parities at this time.”

Asim said that the parties that have not submitted the audit reports will be fined and that amount of fine to be imposed shall be decided after deliberations among the Commission members, as required by the regulation.

All registered political parties have to submit annual audit reports to the Elections Commission. The parties that submitted audits last year are; Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Jumhoory Party (JP), Adhaalath Party, Dhivehi Gaumee Party, People’s Alliance (PA), Gaumee Ithihad, Maldives National Congress (MNC) and the Islamic Democratic Party.

President of the Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeq has said that the audit reports are considered when disbursing funds to political parties and that a party that neglects to submit the annual audit report will not receive state funds.
