Maldives Police Service has said that driving licences of 237 people have been withheld following traffic violations over a period of one week.
The 237 licences were withheld in a police operation conducted from 12 to 18 March.
The police said that during this operation, 422 people were fined for traffic violations, statements were obtained form 167 people who were not carrying their licences while driving motorcycles, and traffic violation stickers were put on 160 vehicles that were parked against the traffic regulation.
The police said that traffic check points were set up at various locations in Male’ and that 798 vehicles were checked in the operation that went on from 12 to 18 March.
During this period, 28 accidents were reported out of which investigations had been completed for 15 cases, said the police.
